5 Reasons to Add London to the Top of Your Bucket List

London’s reputation precedes it, and we’re very lucky at Let Me Show You London that we are based in one of the most famous and beloved cities in the world. However, despite London’s popularity worldwide, SOME people haven’t added our fair city to the top of their bucket lists… But don’t panic, as Let Me Show You London has gathered together all of our love and enthusiasm for London into one helpful guide! With this article, we hope to convince a few fence sitters why London should be their next big adventure. And if you do decide to visit, let us show you around on one of our highly rated London Tours.

London’s Numerous Iconic Landmarks and Monuments

Given London’s status for centuries as the capital city in the heart of the vast British Empire, it has gradually accumulated an impressive array of famous monuments and landmarks. In fact, the only negative side of London’s assortment of sights is that some visitors feel overwhelmed when trying to consider where to visit, or in which order. Here’s a short list of some of London’s top landmarks:

  • Westminster Abbey (home to royal weddings and coronations)
  • Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament
  • Buckingham Palace (home to Queen Elizabeth II)
  • St James’s Palace
  • Nelson’s Column (in the bustling Trafalgar Square)

And if seeing all of these sights in one day appeals to you, then you should consider taking our Panoramic Walking Tour of London. This 4-hour tour is perhaps the best way to tick off some of the city’s best sights while learning about the city from a passionate local guide!

London’s Shopping is Rivalled Only by New York

London’s shopping attracts people from all around the world. It’s not just the sheer quantity of shops and top fashion that appeals to visitors, it’s the boutique stories and traditional markets scattered through the city. Here is a small list of some of London’s most popular markets and department stores:

  • Fenwick of Bond Street
  • Harrods
  • Selfridges
  • Liberty London
  • Covent Garden Market
  • Dover Street Market
  • Vivienne Westwood Worlds End
  • The Royal Exchange

We started making this list then realised that a proper list would go on for ages; it could be 10 times as long and still not do justice to London’s shopping scene.

The Tower of London

London is the Food Capital of the UK

While we’re sure many the UK’s biggest cities are proud of their cuisine, London’s huge population and restaurant scene has attracted some of the most innovative and exciting chefs and restaurateurs from Europe and beyond. Some people aren’t always kind about British food — but that’s okay as London does a lot to recover our foodie reputation! It is home to 67 Michelin Star restaurants, which puts it above Hong Kong, San Francisco, and Barcelona. In fact, Paris is the only city in Europe with more Michelin Stars! While there are lots of great traditional “British” restaurants, you can also look forward to some of the best Indian food anywhere outside of India, and there is a large selection of particularly exciting French restaurants. Fans of Gordon Ramsay will be excited to visit one (or several) of the famed chef’s 11 London restaurants.

Visit Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre

Whether you’re interested in theatre or history and culture, a visit to Shakespeare’s Globe is a must. Arguably the most famous theatre in the world, the Globe is a faithful reconstruction of the Bard’s famous venue. While the original Globe Theatre was built in 1599 (the same year our mate William wrote Much Ado About Nothingand Julius Caesar), it burned down in 1613, was then rebuilt in 1614, and was subsequently demolished in 1644. The current Globe is a faithful reconstruction built on the ruined foundations of the original theatre, and its construction was supervised by a crack team of experts and academics who did everything they could to ensure it was restored to its original glory — with a few modern concessions to accommodate modern fire safety regulations. This magnificent building has entertained visitors and audiences for years, and the reconstruction has taught us much about how Shakespeare’s plays were performed.

That’s all we have time for today. Of course, we have only scratched the surface of London and why you should bump it right to the top of your travel bucket list. If you have any questions about this guide or about the London tours mentioned here, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. So, what are you waiting for? Let us show you London!

Great tour with Ben at The Tower of London We had a great day at the Tower of London with our guide Ben. He was wonderful, and knowledgeable. We were able to see everything without long waits because he knew which areas to visit first to avoid the crowds. We had a group of 8, and we all enjoyed this tour very much. It was a highlight of our trip!

Experiência incrível. Com certeza uma das experiências mais incríveis realizadas em Londres. Uma construção com mais de mil anos e adorada pelos cristãos até hoje. Um dos edifícios mais importantes do Reino Unido. Muito riqueza em ouro.

Amazing Experience This was my favorite tour during my 5 days in London. Lucy greeted us in the rain with the happiest personality and designed the tour to maximize what we wanted to see. Her knowledge about the Abbey and surrounding area was incredible and made our experience amazing.

Fantastic Private tour of the Tower of London We had an amazing personalized private tour of the Tower of London. Our guide. Mehru, was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the history of the Tower and the royal lineage. She took the time to explain everything we saw. Mehru was friendly and very fun to listen to. My adult daughter and I highly enjoyed this experience! The tour company was also extremely easy to work with and accommodated our schedule and requests. Thank you so much!

MUST DO, YES YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!! BEYOND INCREDIBLE!!!!! Wonderful, relaxing, rich, diverse experience seeing all of the highlights London has to offer in a private, relaxed tour with Denisa!!! The day one tours, depends on what you will experience - we toured on a FRIDAY which gave us front row seats to The Changing of the Guards, less crowds, and the ability to walk right into the Westminster Abbey, Tower of London, the Parks, everywhere! The great thing about this tour, and this tour guide - Denisa - is that our tour was curated to our tastes, what we wanted to do, what we wanted to see. I simply emailed Denisa indicating what we wanted to see, and she made it happen! We did not wait for tickets, she had them for us. We did not wait in lines, with her credentials, we were able to walk right in. It was a super fun day, everyone in our family learned so much from the tour, Denisa's expertise, and had an incredible time!!!! So worth it, if you have a half of day in London to tour!!!!!! Thank you so much, Denisa!!! You are AMAZING!!!! :) We had the BEST TIME because of you!!!!

Fantastic Tour with Marina...the Time Flew By & We Learned So Much! I am a lover of all things Tudor-related; my adult kids, not so much. Our guide, Marina, met us with an engaging smile & kept the kids' attention the entire time. Her clever playing card introduction to the Tower Kings really set the mood & provided a great start, transitioning from the moat/exotic pets; raven sanctuary, the White Tower/Courtyard and so forth. I cannot say enough good things about this tour; please put this one on your list!
